Former AS Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini admits he was desperate to sign Paulo Dybala when he was still at Palermo, but admits that the Giallorossi could not afford the asking price.
“When he exploded in his last year at Palermo, his price went up a lot and I couldn’t afford to take him to Rome, even if I was very much infatuated with him” Sabatini told Mediagol. “I thought of [Franco] Vazquez more than once, but Roma already had players in that role who have to be protected, and I never got to the end of that question.
“These are players who have shaped the recent history of Palermo, and when people think about [President Maurizio] Zamparini they should also remember these things.”
