As they prepare to take on Barcelona tonight, former Sevilla sporting director Monchi insists that Juventus boast one of the best defences in Europe and reserved special praise for Dani Alves, who he sold to Barcelona.

“He is not the absolute best right-back, but he is still one of the best,” Monchi told Tuttosport. “We’re talking about a player with lofty physical capabilities and a terrific ability to read the game.

“Dani is very strong, and like all the top players, he always brings a good performance, whether it’s a big game or not. Dani Alves has a great mentality that is necessary to be competitive at the highest level.

“When he comes to Camp Nou maybe he will be a little excited: it’s normal to be like this, it happened to him even when he returned to Sevilla for the first time as an opponent.

“Dani, however, is a competitor and is able to manage his feelings. He will concentrate 100% to ensure he gives the maximum for Juventus. And for him, the best means winning.

“We had a chat in Turin, when Sevilla came for the Champions League. I found him happy, typically Dani. He could not be anything else, he plays at a great club. Turin is colder than than Barcelona but the football in Italy is hot.

“I was amazed by the 3-0 for the Bianconeri, exactly as I had been after PSG’s 4-0 win. Barcelona will try the same comeback but, but I think this time it will be more complicated to overturn the result. Especially in defence, because in defence Juventus are not PSG: the Bianconeri are among the most skilled in Europe from this point of view.”
