Giuseppe Marotta spoke today ahead of his club’s clash with Sampdoria.
“The regrets of Madrid do not mean we are resigned to our fate. Now we want to consolidate our domination in Italy with the Scudetto and Coppa Italia,” Marotta told Mediaset Premium.
“I don’t think the mood is downbeat, as we can still achieve something extraordinary this season.”
President Andrea Agnelli was adamant that VAR needs to be added to European competitions next season.
“I share in full what the President said, which he expressed in a very civilised fashion. I will also say that we absolutely need to make the style of refereeing uniform in Europe, because once again today we saw a penalty awarded and then the decision changed on VAR. In the Premier League, they don’t even have a goal-line official, while in the Europa League they do.
“Every tournament uses a different method. Perhaps the referee in Madrid needed some more good sense both for evaluating the last second incident and for choosing a 33-year-old referee for what was essentially another Champions League Final.”
“I always assume there is good faith, but if you analyse what happened in Madrid, you’d come to the conclusion that a more experienced referee would’ve handled the whole situation better.
“A referee can do well for 89 minutes, then at the 90th he needs to use logic coming from experience and wisdom to handle things the right way.”
Torino President Urbano Cairo said this week that Real’s penalty is similar to those given to Juventus in Serie A.
“No. That is illogical and doesn’t even warrant a response.”
Marotta was again asked if Coach Max Allegri will be back to lead his squad next season.
“Allegri has been with us for four years, I know him well and know the club strategy. Nothing will change over the next three months, Juventus have set their path. I think Allegri was very honest and our rapport with him is exceptional, so I am sure we can continue with him.”
