Speaking shortly after Juve’s narrow 3-2 Coppa Italia win over Atalanta, Andrea Barzagli admitted that his side took too many unnecessary risks that allowed their opponents to almost pull off a shocking comeback.

“We knew it was a tough game,” Barzagli told RAI Sport. “We had it on track, but the truth is we took our foot off the gas a bit towards the end and really ran some big risks.

“This just proves you cannot take your eye off the ball for a second, because the opponents will punish you. Atalanta are a very good side and they naturally took advantage.

“Any goal you concede, even one into the far top corner, is conceded because you made a mistake. It’s never a fluke.”
